What You May Not Know About Cup PlaySo You Want to Play in Cup -- Which One is Right for Your Team?WSYSA offers four (4) Cups for teams to participate in during or at the end of the fall season. They are: Recreational Cup (formerly the President's Cup) -- a recreational only tournament that, in District II, runs simultaneously with the fall season. Generally first games begin mid-October and occur on the weekend day opposite regular fall league play. So, if you are a GU14 team, your fall league match is on Saturday and your President's Cup match would be on Sunday. Commissioners' Cup - This tournament starts in January after the fall season has concluded. Any team may enter this tournament EXCEPT (1) those teams that entered President's Cup and those teams playing in the Washington State Premier League. This is considered an 'intermediate' level tournament falling between President's Cup and Challenge Cup. Challenge Cup - This tournament starts in January after the fall season has concluded. Any team may enter this tournament EXCEPT (1) those teams that entered President's Cup and those teams playing in the Washington State Premier League Division I and Division II. This is considered an 'competitive' level tournament falling between Commissioners' Cup and Championship Cup. Championship Cup - This tournament starts in January after the fall season has concluded. This is considered the 'most competitive' level and is the only tournament that Washington State Premier League Division I and Division II teams may participate in. Tournament Fees - How Much and What Does it Cover?Generally speaking, as each Association operates independently, you can expect the following: Tournament Application Fees (based on 2009): Additional Fees - Each team needs to check with their Association regarding additional fees. These fees would be for field rental (i.e., practices, matches) and for referee costs (averages from $95.00 for a U11 match to $150.00+ for a U18 match per home game). The tournament fee paid does not cover these types of expenses until a team gets to the semi-finals and finals. Last Updated 8/30/2010 |
